This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 4 concentrated on the Present tenses, their forms and uses. The unit also addresses typical student errors and teaching ideas for the active stage part of the lesson. As a native English speaker, I use tenses in everyday speech: it?s been ingrained in my vocabulary since I was old enough to begin forming sentences; nevertheless, I?ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to fully understand why and how to properly use tenses. Each tense has their own aspect, for example: Present simple, Present continuous, Present perfect, and Present perfect continuous. The different aspects of the tenses differ in that they each describe habits, unchanging situations, general truths & fixed arrangements that are happening now, has happened, has been happening and is likely to continue happening and what someone does. Each aspect presents us with three possible uses of expression, which outline the possible ways to utilize each aspect. The different expressions outlined in this unit are affirmative, Negative and question form. These expressions allow a tense to affirm an action, deny an action or pose a question. Unit 4 helped me comprehend the intricacies of the tenses and allowed me the opportunity to understand typical student errors. Understanding what I will encounter in the classroom will help me prepare for my lessons; additionally, the teaching ideas are great teaching tools I will use in the classroom.
