This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
As the unit said it is important to change up a lesson and not solely rely on the course book. There is nothing worse for a student then hearing \"now open to page _ and do the activity.\" This repetition becomes boring and it can leave students feeling unmotivated and easily distracted by anything else going on in the classroom to not do the work. Changing up the materials and adding in authentic materials will give a freshness to the lessons and the students will be more engaged with the work. If the teacher knows of a certain topic that is trending at the moment it would be a good idea to use that if it appropriate for the level of the students such as: new movies, tv shows, and even video games. It may also be a perfect opportunity to keep a higher level of student up to date with current events from the newspapers. Not only will the changing of materials keep the students engaged, but also the teachers. Teachers may loose their sense of teaching with the mechanicalness of telling the students to do an activity from the workbook and like the unit pointed out they will become less creative with their lessons.
