Course materials can be classified into authentic, real items a native speaker would read/ listen to, and created i.e. made by the teacher (crosswords, word search, Role play cards, flashcards, gap-fill exercises and picture stories). Authentic materials are used because they are usually more interesting (they can be tailored to the student group interest), and student can gain confidence when they understand it. Created materials can be made for the level of the students. Published course books have advantages as well- they have a balanced mix of grammar and vocabulary skills, provides security, are less time consuming to use instead of creating materials from scratch, the content is tried and tested before being published, provides a syllabus with continuity and progression. Drawbacks include: they may not always fit the needs of the every lesson, may become predictable and boring and students may not like it and be unwilling to use it. Some factors that need to be considered when analyzing a course book are: price, availability, design, methodology, difficulty, syllabus, topic and what additional material is included need to be
