Unit nine did a great job discussing the pro's and con's of using a course book in the classroom as well as the use of authentic materials. For example one pro for using a course book in the classroom is that they provide a tried and tested syllabus. While a con of using a course book in the classroom would be that they are written for a general audience rather than a specific group of students. That is why the use of authentic materials as well as well a course book in the classroom is very helpful. Authentic materials can directly relate to the students and allow for a better understanding and more interaction using the new material.
