They provide structure, good reference material, and are a good framework for a course. This unit is correct in pointing out that without adaptation or variation they become predictable and boring. Authentic materials utilize interest in the culture to build language knowledge and can often be more exciting to students. Teachers have to make sure that their materials match the content and level that are suitable for their students.
