As I previously mentioned, there can be no production of language without reception of language. Receptive skills are learned more easily because learners are always being exposed to them. Due to this, many language learners can understand more than they can speak or write. So working hard on productive skills is vitally important for them to be able to both understand AND use the language they are trying to learn. There is often discomfort and embarrassment from learners of a second language, whether they are beginners or advanced. I feel that making them comfortable and confident in their ability to speak is crucial to their ability to excel at English, thus, the production skills need to be pushed and taught well.
