The productive skills speaking and writing need to go hand and hand when teaching a class. I initially found it interesting that writing has been classified as the most neglected skill in a TEFL classroom, but after thinking about my own teacher training experiences it is true that the most uncomfortable times are the quiet ones. What this means for me as a future educator is not only finding a way to cope with the lulls in the lesson, but doing so in a productive and interesting way for my students. I love the idea of using creative communication to practice fluency, and think that debates and simulations are a killer way to intrigue and activate motivated learners.
