This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 19 covered teaching special groups, which are beginners, individuals (one to one), young learners, business English, monolingual and multilingual students. I learned that there is a big difference between teaching adults and children. Adult students for example mostly choose to take English classes and therefore they might be more motivated and eager to learn a language, while youth students very often need to become motivated by the teacher with fun, games and frequent changing activities. Working through the topic business English/English for specific purposes increased my confidence in teaching this group of students. I became aware that it is not to teach them about their business; it is about teaching the English language. As long as I prepare myself with a level test, needs analysis, group needs negotiation and a well prepared lesson plan I should not have a problem to teach everybody from a worker up to a CEO of a company.
