The unit covered four of the present tenses, present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. After reading through this section and doing the tasks at the end, it feels like I am less proficient at English than when I began this lesson. The rules of the present tense, especially the present perfect and present perfect continous, are inherent to me and come naturally. Learning the rules of the tenses and when each tense should be used was confusing to me. But this confusion was valuable, because I understood that grammar points, such as verb tenses, needed to be taught slowly and deliberately to English language learners. It is not something that you can simply teach on the blackboard and expect students to master. They must practice it, and also practice the usages in correct settings.
