This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
A good lesson on teaching students to read. I like the idea of going over difficult words and concepts at the start to better help the students appreciate the reading material. This part of the teaching process will take some careful planning on the part of the teacher to tailor the reading to the level of the students. But I can see that it will really help them as reading a short story creates interest and helps improve language skills. I recently learned French and didn't have the chance to read stories in my classes and I can see that I had I would have enjoyed the class work a lot more.In this unit we covered the different classes that may be taught, varying from beginners, group classes, individual students, children or adults to groups with special needs like business English. I've learnt how teaching different types of classes require a different approach and the problems that might be faced teaching each group. I've further became more aware of how different techniques and activities could be used to ensure motivation and participation in class activities and to be mindful of my approach to students based on their different needs and reasons for studying the language.
