Unit 7 provides information on the basic skills of reading and listening. As we read something, there are two ways to approach that reading according to our motives. Are we reading for entertainment, or purpose?
Our purpose, interest and content of the reading will dictate whether we use predictive, scanning, skimming, detailed information, or deduct from content skills.
The theme of this lesson centers around how to get students to want to interact with the reading. They need to be given a variety of levels at which to respond or react to it, but when students learn to apply their purpose to the reading activity, they will more likely enjoy, and/or be informed by it. The teacher has a huge role in providing interest and motivation, as we saw in the videos in the previous lesson.
