This unit concentrated on the passive skills of reading and listening. It stated the two main purposes for using these skills, for entertainment and for purpose, and then went into the the different ways we use them such as skimming and reading in detail before giving useful tips on how to teach these skills along with some example activities. It was interesting to me to be able to more properly identify how I specifically use reading and listening (for purpose and entertainment) as well as how I actually do it (like scanning and predictive skills) that I hadn't really thought of previously but now not only allow me to analyze how I use these receptive skills but also to put terminology on it to allow me to better communicate about these ideas.
