In this unit theories, methods and techniques of teaching English language are explained.
Most common types of methods and techniques are: Grammar - translation, audio - lingualism, task-based learning, communicative language learning, community language learning, the silent way, suggestopaedia and the lexical approach.
One of the most effective method is: Engage, Study and activate (ESA).
Engage is a sequence in the lesson where the teacher will try to arouse the students.
Study is where students will focus on the language and how it is constructed.
Activate is the stage where students are encouraged to use all of the language they know.
There are three types of ESA lessons: Straight arrow, Boomerang and Patchwork.
In the end of this unit we have ideas for each area of ESA teaching method, how to give feedback and how to use correction techniques.
