This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covers methodologies and techniques in EFL teaching. A few examples of applied approaches and methods are Grammar - translation, Audio - lingualism, Presentation, Practice and Production, Communicative Language Teaching and Suggestopaedia. The ESA approach applies the most important conditions and is particularly appropriate for new teachers and trainees. ESA lessons comprise of the following components: Engage (this is the part of the lesson where the aim is to warm up the students with games, music or stories, for example), Study (activities during this phase are those where the students will focus on the language and how it is constructed), Activate (here the students are encouraged to put the language into practice as communicatively as possible). I have also learned about correction techniques. When the student makes a mistake, self correction should be the first option and correction from the teacher direct to the student should be the last resort. It is also usual to distinguish between errors and mistakes. An error is something of which the student doesn't know the correct form of or believes what he or she is saying is correct while a mistake can be thought of as a slip of the tongue or the pen.
