Unit number 3 is about theories, methods and technics. Nine theories are mentioned: Grammar translation, Audio lingualism, Presentation, Practice, Production, Task-Based Learning, Communicative Languae Teaching, Community Language Learning, The Silent Way, Suggestopaedia, The Lexical approach. None of the previous is correct nor incorrect to be used in the class, all depends on the circumstances each teacher has with his or her group?s context, the teacher just must take into consideration that students need as much exposure to the language as possible, also need a certain amount of input from the teacher, communicative tasks, low filters, as well as when and where possible, students should be encouraged to discover language for themselves.
A method that in this course is recommended and that it says teachers should base future follow up activities, is ESA which stands for: Engage, Study and Activate. It says a teacher can apply this stages in different ways, by applying them just ones or more, but always starting with the engage stage and finishing with the activate stage, it also says that it is important to never correct during the active stage and that correction should happen when: the mistake is with the language point it is been thought, the mistake is being regularly repeated either by the student or other class members and so risks becoming deep-rooted, and/ or when the mistake seriously obstructs understanding.
