This unit discusses receptive skills which are reading and listening. These are primarily used for entertainment and/or a specific purpose. There are 5 skills involved - predictive, scanning, skimming, detailed, and understanding from the context. The teacher should choose topics that are interests of the students (or make them interesting to the students during the engage time). Teaching materials chosen must be compatible to the students level of learning which would include the vocabulary as well as the length of the sentences and structure that is used to teach. Sometimes pre teaching new vocabulary and choosing texts for them to study that take into account the level of the students abilities and interests.
