This unit taught the receptive skills; Reading and Listening, out of the four language skills which also include speaking and writing. As a teacher, it is important to make ensure that a lesson that practices the receptive skills is relevant and appropriate to your students. For example, texts should be challenging, but not too challenging. For example, it is not advisable to give beginners authentic text to learn from. Also, when giving it to higher level learners, it is advisable to go through some vocabulary, so that students have the ability to infer the meaning of vocabulary they do not understand. Another thing to keep in mind when selecting texts, is texts that can hold student interests.
