This unit brings up different kind of tests and how to asssess the students. It ranges from placement tests to external proficiency tests. I also like the idea of students evaluating the course. However, this would only work if the students are honest. I think it shouldn´t be used as the only way of assessing, but maybe a part of it. The way students experience a course might differ to their actual ability.
While I can see why mentioned tests are good, I think the unit is forgetting one thing: that student can evaluate each other to some extent. It should however be noted that evaluating each others´ assignments does not mean that they can measure progress in a formal way. The method however can and should be used in such way that the students can develop their way of thinking through discussion. This will also enable more student talk time.
