Prepping and planning for lessons are important, especially for a new teacher. However, it shouldn't be a rigid and non-flexible lesson plan either. Teachers know that a lesson may not go as planned and to be prepared for changes in the schedule. There are key ways to carry out a successful lesson. First, the teacher should be early to class and break the ice with students right at the beginning. In a typical ESA straight arrow lesson plan, the teacher Engages the students with a topic and elicits answers on that specific topic. The teacher will continue to elicit answers from the students and write them on the board during the Study phase. The next part of the Study phase, a hand out can be given on the material. Later, in the Engage phase students can work together to create their own material on the subject and review it with the class.
