The purpose of this Unit was to establish the groundwork for effective classroom management. The Unit broke apart the various attributes of an effective classroom including: layout of classroom, specific behaviors used by effective teachers to establish a well maintained classroom, ways to vary the class work between teacher dominated, student dominated and the activities that fall in the middle, and it outlined potential pitfalls of a teacher. One of the most important factors I found was in regards to student behavior; when dealing with a student who is not meeting behavioral expectations, it is best to focus on the behavior and not the student. However, it is also very important to know your students names and situations they may find themselves in to cause such behavior. For an almost veteran classroom teacher (13 years) this was a nice review from my graduate school days.
