This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit provided an overview of teaching productive skills, that is, speaking and writing. The lesson explains how productive skills are developed in order to communicate effectively. Therefore, it is important to consider both accuracy and fluency in speaking and writing in non-native English students. Teaching these skills requires encouraging students to write and speak without fear of making mistakes. As a teacher, one must be sure to correct mistakes after an Activate phase, but not during, as this will disrupt a student's flow of speaking or writing. With writing and speaking, one must note that students may need additional preparation time in order to achieve both accuracy and fluency. The unit provided a couple of helpful examples in terms of activities and games that can be utilized in the classroom to teach productive skills.
