This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
There are four basic language skills?reading, listening, speaking, and writing, which are equally important in language learning and should be incorporated in the lessons whenever possible. These four are divided into two categories, the receptive skills (reading and listening), and the productive skills (speaking and writing). Unit 11 talks about the receptive skills?reading and listening. The reasons and motives for these receptive skills are classified into two main categories, purpose and entertainment. It also expounds the special skills employed when doing reading and listening tasks to better understand a material. A listener or reader uses his/her predictive skills in predicting the content of an article or dialogue from a headline or introduction. Likewise he/she uses scanning when listening or reading for specific information. Skimming is used when a reader wants to get the gist of a text or dialogue. In trying to understand everything in detail, a student reads/listens for detailed information. However, deduction from context is employed if the student wants to understand or deduce the meaning of individual words or phrases from the context of the material.
