This unit focuses on the productive skills writing and speaking. Writing is a skill that is often overlooked and left for homework. When looking at writing, it is important to stress handwriting, spelling and punctuation. Allow for creative writing activities such as plays, comic strips, stories, poetry, etc. The finished product will give the students a sense of pride and empowerment. As for speaking, the two main areas to focus on are accuracy and fluency. Accuracy is taught in the study phase of the lesson, whereas fluency is taught during the activate phase. It is important to have both guided and creative activities where the students can practice both aspects.
