Past tense is a grammatical form of verbs which an action take place in the past period. There are four types of past tense:
1. Past simple tense is used to show something that happened and an action wholly completed in the past. e.g. He gave me a dollar on that day. And I gave him some money and he bought a pen with it.
2. Past perfect tense states that an action was completed at a certain point of time in the past. This tense refers to two period of time, one action completed before the other take place. e.g. When I reached home, he had already gone.
3. Past continuous tense shows an action which was going on at a certain time in the past. e.g I was reading a book when he came.
4. Past perfect continuous tense states that an action had been going on at, or before, some point in the time past. e.g. He had been breaking some stones before he was killed by a falling stone.
