This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, I reviewed some important information regarding the receptive skills of reading and listening. The different specialist skills for reading and listening successfully include: predictive skills (that is, predicting the content of a written work based on a headline, etc.); scanning for specific information; skimming for the general idea; reading and listening in a detailed way in order to gather all detailed information; and deducing the meaning of phrases or words from the context of what one is listening to or reading. I also reviewed some important points in relation to the choice of topics. Student motivation can depend upon the choice of topic, because if the student lacks interest in the topic, they will not be motivated to show interest in the material. Teachers can generate interest in a topic by knowing what interests students in the first place. Providing a variety of topics will help to guarantee that all students will be provided with a topic that interests them. As a practical measure, it is important to know that teachers can get students interested in a topic via ?engage? phase activities, such as discussing the topic, showing pictures about it, and so on.
