Productive skills concern speaking and writing. Teachers usually concentrate either on accuracy or on fluency of oral and written communication. This due to the fact that they require completely different approaches. In accuracy based activities the language is controlled by a teacher. Drilling or repeating after the teacher is frequently used. Fluency based activities are very creative, involve student-student interaction, and very little teacher's participation. Correcting mistakes discourages students to speak. Interestingly enough, I always took the easiness of writing Latin characters for granted. The authors pointed out that students from certain cultures, whose native alphabet is not Latin-based, need to be taught how to draw the English letters. I liked the fact that authors provided plenty of ideas and internet resources for the class games.
