This unit covered teaching new language. It is important to consider where students are in their respective learning timeline, where and if they may use the new language, and the frequency with which it might be used. These factors all contribute to building a base of knowledge through use and familiarity, which in turn builds confidence and thus contributes to long-term retention. I appreciated how the lesson broke this topic into three sections: vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language function because each area is a separate piece to a logical whole that a native speaker might not initially consider.
