This unit described the different roles of the teacher and the learner. The teacher can adopt the role of an instructor, facilitator, mentor, psychologist, counsellor, policeman, whereas the clients will also fit into different categories depending on whether they are individuals or groups, by whom the tuition is paid and where the class takes place. Teaching adults have several advantages as well as disadvantages. The potential problems can be overcome by careful planning, getting to know the students and keeping them focused and motivated. The teaching of Business English requires the same skills (the two receptive skills of listening and reading, the two productive skills of speaking and writing) to be taught as in the case of General English. The main difference between these two is the level of contextualisation. The different English teaching methods were also reviewed in this unit and the ESA method was explained in detail.
