I find that grammar is one of the most difficult, but also one of the most fundamental elements of understanding that a teacher much have a good grasp on. This course has shown me how I have taken many of the rules and understandings of parts of speech for granted because, as English is my first language, I have a natural understanding of how words work and fit together. But my student?s will not have the benefit of English as a first language which is why it is important for me to be able to define, differentiate, and give examples of the various parts of speech in order for them to learn how words should be joined together in ways that make grammaticaL sense. Parts of speech are important because they show us how words relate to each other, and as a teacher, I need to be able to illustrate this in a way that my students will understand.
