This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit was about watching and evaluating how things go during a lesson. In watching the two videos it is helpful for new teachers to see this and to be aware of the pitfalls that many teachers fall into. The first video was so painful to watch as you could feel the frustration and confusion of the students. The teacher used language that was too technically and never explained anything. The first video was not teaching but just talking at people. The students in the first video at no point in that lesson were aware of what was required of them. In the second video the teacher comes in engaging and ready to use the students names from the beginning. He speaks slowly and clearly as well as using language that is most appropriate for the level of his students. He was encouraging and friendly throughout the lesson allowing the students to feel comfortable and ready to take risks with using English. Of course there were some problems with the second less for example reviewing the words that the students were mispronouncing instead of allowing and encouraging incorrect pronunciation. Overall this unit was very interesting and extremely helpful to new teachers.
