The present tense has four forms: the present simple, the present continuous, the present perfect, and the present perfect continuous. Each form has its particular usages and each form can be taught thru different exercises in the Activate stage of the ESA teaching method. The present tense emphasizes action at the present and can be used to express habits, routines, and facts. The present continuous emphasizes occuring and continuing action. The present perfect emphasizes action which has been completed with a specific result, and the present perfect continuous emphasizes an activity that is likely to continue.
