Unit 3 of TESOL course introduce us to theories, methods and techniques in modern teaching process. Teacher, who knows the teaching ways and knows how to manage techniques and methods during the lesson, is an armed teacher. Unit 3 gives us insight into a lot of different ways to teach and methods to stick. All of them, of course, have their pros and cons and which one method the teacher must use is a question of preferences, type of lesson, students? level, etc. What is more important, each chosen method should include three elements, necessary for successful teaching and learning: Engage, Study, Activate (ESA). In the 3rd unit we are getting to know that using this three basic building blocks in a different sequence the teacher will be able to construct variety of lessons to fulfill all kind of students? needs in language knowledge. Also, in the Unit 3 we meet Eliciting as the one of the basic and main techniques, which help the teacher reduce Teacher Talking Time and instead the teacher draws information, language and ideas from the students. Eliciting helps to provide constant learners involvement and to keep teacher at the learners speed rather than his/hers own. Eliciting must be present in each of the blocks of ESA, because involvement shows to the teacher where the students? real difficulties and problems are. In addition, involving people into new discoveries is always more effective and less boring than just giving ?lectures?.
