This unit covers the importance and structure of lesson plans. Lesson plans are important for a number of reasons; anticipating problems, keeping on track, describing your lesson goals, list of materials, etc. It's an organizer. They need to be structured, but not overly rigid. A completely scripted class or unbreakable rigid structure might not leave room for adaptation when necessary and generally leads to a less interesting class. My first year teaching I had a head teacher that wanted every second of time accounted for and a script for each class. It was very rigid, ultimately boring for the students and very stressful for me in the planning process and the implementation process. I like that this rigidity is not the norm.
