This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, five different types of conditionals were explained. As always with the English grammar lessons, I was surprised by the complexity of the grammatical structure and the details that are communicated when we, as English speakers, use a particular type of conditional. The most basic conditionals, zero and first conditionals, are easy to comprehend, and most English speakers have a grasp on the concept. The third, fourth, and mixed conditionals, however, were more confusing, because they deal with hypothetical situations and consequences. The lesson suggestions were helpful because the lessons seemed fun and would require the students to be creative. The second half of the unit covered reported speech, and the difficulties that arise from switching between direct and reported speech. Because you have to change references in time, place, and who is speaking to whom, it is difficult for English learners to report someone's speech.
