Unit 14 discussed the use of coursebooks and lesson materials in the classroom. Although the lesson was short it provided some great ideas and examples of materials to use. It covered the importance of using authentic materials, such songs, newspapers, magazines and menus. These real materials are interesting for the students and the understanding of these type of materials that they will find in the real world gives them confidence. The unit also highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of a coursebook. Knowing this helps the teacher be able to use a coursebook effectively and take advantage of its benefits while supplementing it with other great authentic and created materials that may be more suitable in certain cases. I think the telephone role-play cards were a great example for an activate activity.
