This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 11 was about teaching the receptive skills of reading and listening. The unit did a good job of explaining the two main reasons for reading and listening (for a purpose and for entertainment) and explained that even though the two are fairly different, they are also wide ranging and can often times overlap. The unit also explained the various ways that people use these skills ranging from predictive reading and listening or scanning, to focusing on details and deducting reasoning from context. I appreciated that the unit explained some various problems that can occur with both reading and listening and how it followed it up with ways to deal with those problems and keep students engaged. My biggest take away was from the example outline of a patchwork lesson. To be able to see an example and the examples of each section of the lesson is a big help.
