Unit 12 was about the importance of productive skills for ESL and EFL learners must learn. Both speaking and writing are the two main forms of communication and it is important that learners feel comfortable using both to convey their thoughts in English.
In the classroom many techniques can be used to help the students feel comfortable. In my classroom I often will play Pictionary with my students as a activity warm up. I will start with weaker learners drawing a picture on the board so they can participate easily in the game without feeling shy by their speaking or writing skills. When a fellow learner in the class guesses the picture it gives the weaker student a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction helping them feel more confident in the next rounds of the game to be able to speak or write more freely.
This unit does a good job of breaking down the two main productive skills needed to learn English with good examples to use in the classroom.
