This unit talked about how and why of evaluation and testing English for students. The most common ways to assess a student's language levels are tutorials, evaluation by students, and tests. For tutorials, they can take place with the whole group or individual student. For evaluation by students, it is very helpful to ask students to evaluate their course by means of questionnaire or guided discussion. As for tests, there are many different types of tests such as placement/diagnostic to find out what level of course fits the student, progress test for teachers to gauge what language has been remembered or acquired, and practice test to help students that are taking external examinations.
