There are several potential problems that arise when teaching English to speakers of other languages. They include, starting a class where students don't know each other. In this case, the teacher will do well, to learn as much about the students and their English language abilty as possible through warm up activities and questionaires. Another potential problem is large class sizes. In this case, teachers will need to conduct many choral repetition exercises with the class, and plan pair/group activities along with worksheets. Teachers may encounter classes where students revert to their native language a lot. To prevent this, teachers must encourage their learners to try expressing themselves only in English. Provide a nurturing, supportive environment where the student feels comfortable speaking. Another potential problem arises when students have poor listening skills. To combat this, provide many opportunities for students to listen to recordings of conversations and dialogues.
