Tenses can be difficult for new learners. Covering the information in this unit made me realize how much I've actually learned about speaking English. I now use tenses quite easily without thinking about forms or rules, yet teaching others about these may prove an interesting challenge. TWELVE different tenses is a lot to keep track of! Nonetheless, understanding the four present tense forms and having a basic understanding of when they would each generally be used will be a help. Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, and Present Perfect Continuous each have their unique uses and appropriate conditions of use. This unit made me reflect on what a strange thing it is to speak a language fluently and yet have a hard time explaining to someone in technical terms why a certain sentence was formed as it was. But it also underscores to me the importance of constant exposure to a language and constant practice.
