This unit helped me understand the different techniques required for teaching grammar, vocabulary and language functions through the various ESA methods. The choice of an ESA method depends on the language level of the students and the similarity or difference between their native language and English. When teaching new vocabulary, it is important to focus on the pronunciation, spelling, usage and meaning. While with grammar, the teacher needs to put accent also on the form and pattern, as well as on the differences between spoken and written form. When it comes to language functions, the teacher needs to explain the type of language, i.e. formal, informal, etc., as well as their appropriateness.
