This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When teaching English to students that have had little to none past exposure, it can be tricky to phrase the explanation in comprehensible concepts. This holds particularly true if the teacher also has no background exposure to the students' native tongue. A key component in mastering these dilemmas is reinforcement via the 'Engage-Study-Activate' straight-arrow, 'Engage-Activate-Study-Activate' boomerang and 'Engage-Study-Study-Engage-Study-Activate' patchwork lesson techniques. Students benefit from pictures and props during the engage stages of new vocabulary, as well as new language structures. Appropriate language usage can be reiterated with class discussions, debates and other games that illustrate the variety of responses/phrases available to use, and how to choose the right format.
