Unit 20 covered troubleshooting various areas. Initially the unit covered the challenges of first classes. It explained how a teacher will be faced with both beginning ESL students, and those who have already been in ESL classes. Some groups of students have never been together and some classes were already formed before the teacher arrives. Some classes are large and some are small. Some students are fast learners while others are slow learners. The gist of the unit is for the teacher to give an appropriate amount of attention to all students by engaging them and keeping them involved and interested as they learn english. A number of suggestions and techniques were covered in the unit, however the overall theme is for the teacher to be aware of every student in the class and to make adjustments wherever necessary so as to be most effective in assisting each student in progressing in their mastery of the english language.
