Unit 15 gives descriptions of different types of evaluation of students. Placement test is used in order to know what the student already knows and the class where to place him/her. Progress test shows the success of the student and contains reading, writting, listening and speaking of the level that has been covered. Diagnostic test is more for knowing what students know and what should be at next lesson. And Practice tests are similar to external tests. All these tests are the ways to evaluate each students' knowledge of the language in different stages of learning.
On my point of view, external exams are to see real result of studying. All of them are made to test the abilities of non-native speakers according to their purposes in the foreign country.
