This unit gives a breakdown of methodologies, theories and techniques used in teaching students. It gives suggestive pros and cons for most methods described. I have found the ESA (Engage, Study and Activate) to be the most exciting and beneficial methodology to use in lessons, as it allows for great flexibility for lesson planning and running of lessons for the teacher in the classroom. It also equips students with an inquiry/discovery based environment by allowing the teacher to talk less and for the students to interact with lessons more. The Elicitation methodology through thought-provoking questioning keeps the students focused on tasks and gives them a platform to make their own meaning, hence allowing them to practice English without being \"spoon-fed!\" Elicitation also allows the teacher to gauge where the students' understanding is and their knowledge base threshold in the areas being probed.
