I would agree that authentic materials are more engaging as they are real life connection for students. However, teacher resources such as previously created materials that are adapted are very helpful. I agree that course books can provide good foundation for a teacher but rather omitting, replacing, supplementing, or adapting lends to better classroom outcomes (because each class/group of students is different). Created materials in an ESL classroom than they look like in my science classroom. There are many crosswords, word search puzzles, role-play cards, gap fill activities, and picture stories.
