Several methods for teaching L2 were presented along with the advantages and disadvantages of each. The ESA approach uses components from many of these through three Stages: Engage; Study; and Activate.
The students' interests are aroused in the Engage phase. New language information is presented and structured practice, ie worksheets and drills, happen in the Study phase. The Activate stage gives the students the opportunity to use what was learned through some related creative activity. Resources and example activities are provided for each stage and Guidance is given about remaining positive when giving feedback and making Corrections.
