Conditional sentences are made up of an ?if? clause and the main clause. The conditionals in English describe the result of an action that might happen either in the present or future or might have happened in the past. The zero conditional talk about general truths and habits, the first conditional states future possibilities, the second conditional describe unlikely things in the future, and the third and mixed conditional describe hypothetical past actions or unreal situations. Additionally, in English, we often have to report what people say. This reporting is called reported speech or indirect speech. This is used to use to talk about the past, causing a change in the tense when constructing sentences.
