This unit deals with how pronunciation is often a foreign topic in many classrooms because it is such an abstract topic. Since pronunciation focuses on individual sounds it is difficult for students to learn if they cannot understand everything that is being said. When someone is trying to focus on what the content is rather than the pronunciation, this can add more layers to the learning curve. Stresses and utterances cannot always be made out so it is better for the teacher to cover a main host of individual sounds and sounds in connected speech. This creates a fuller perception of what is being communicated.
