This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
It is clear that Video 1 is a poor demonstration of teaching a lesson and Video 2 is a satisfactory demonstration of good teaching. Being a teacher is no easy job as not only are you the educator, but also the person responsible for the students'learning progress in the classroom context. I always remember the teachers who gave remarkable lessons and the subject taught interestingly. The method they employed simply allow students to digest and absorb knowledge effortlessly, and that is what I call successful teaching.
The two videos have clearly illustrated the difference between a wholesome teaching and learning environment and an intimidated and uncomfortable learning atmosphere. The role and attitude of the teacher almost affect 99% of the learning environment, and so how the teacher behaves and present him/herself before the class will have a profound effect on students' learning outcomes. It can be seen that the students in video 1 lacked motivation and interest to learn and this is very likely due to the teacher's inappropriate teaching style - introducing jargons that could be misleading, acting displeased by scowling and calling on students' name to answer a question before it is asked, which might create fear and discomfort. Sense of humour is always useful in establishing an enjoyable and fun learninging atmosphere, so I personally think that it's a good idea to include humour elements in between phases of lesson so to retain students' attention throught the lesson.
